Double time calculator

Double time is twice your hourly rate. Enter your rate, and hours if you want the pay.

Quick answer: double time is 2 x your hourly rate. At 22 an hour it is 44; 6 double-time hours pay 264.

When is double time paid?

Federal law never requires double time. It comes from state law or from your employer or union contract. California, for example, requires double time for hours over 12 in a workday and over 8 on the seventh straight day of the workweek. Many employers pay double time for holidays or call-ins by policy.

Double time and a half

Double time and a half is 2.5 x the hourly rate: at 20 an hour it is 50. It is not required by federal law; some employers and contracts use it for work on major holidays. The table in the calculator shows 2.5x next to your rate.
