When 2,080 is not right

2,080 assumes 52 paid weeks of 40 hours, which is correct when holidays and vacation are paid. If you work 35 hours, or take unpaid weeks off, change the hours per week and weeks per year above. A calendar year actually holds 260 to 262 weekdays, which is why some payroll systems use 2,088 or the long-run average of 2,087. For a partial year, use the prorated salary calculator.

These are gross figures. This site has no take-home or tax tools, because tax tables change every year.

Annual, monthly and gross pay

Annual salary = hourly rate x paid hours a year; monthly salary = annual / 12; gross pay is the pay before any tax or deduction, which is what every figure on this page shows. Comparing hourly and salaried offers? Convert both to yearly pay with the same hours, then remember that salaried roles may work more than 40 hours without overtime if they are exempt.

Freelancing rather than salaried? Your hourly rate has to cover unbilled time and costs; work it out with the contractor rate calculator.

Questions

How do I calculate my hourly rate from my salary?

Divide the yearly salary by the paid hours in a year. At 40 hours a week that is 2,080: 50,000 / 2,080 = 24.04 an hour.

How much is 20 an hour a year?

41,600 at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks (20 x 2,080).

What is 60,000 a year hourly?

About 28.85 an hour at 40 hours a week (60,000 / 2,080).

Why is biweekly pay not the same as twice-monthly?

Biweekly is every two weeks, 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly is twice a month, 24 paychecks. The same salary gives a smaller biweekly check (salary / 26) than semi-monthly check (salary / 24).

Is 2,080 right if I get paid holidays?

Yes. Paid holidays and vacation are paid hours, so a full-time salary still covers 2,080 paid hours.
