Employee turnover rate calculator

How many people left, compared with how many you employ on average.

Quick answer: turnover rate = employees who left / average headcount x 100, where average headcount = (start + end) / 2. Nine leavers against an average of 60 is 15% for the quarter, about 60% a year at that pace.

Voluntary and involuntary turnover

Run the calculation separately for resignations and for dismissals and layoffs; they have different causes. Compare the same period each year, since seasonal businesses lose more people at predictable times. Annualizing a short period (x 12 / months) is only a projection.

Questions

Should temporary staff be counted?

Only if you count them in headcount too. Keep the same definition for leavers and headcount, or the rate is meaningless.
