Quick answer: FTE = total hours worked / full-time hours for the same period. 610 hours a week across all staff at a 40-hour full-time week is 15.25 FTE.
Worked example
Ten full-time staff at 40 hours (400) plus eight part-timers averaging 26.25 hours (210) is 610 hours: 15.25 FTE. A single person at 20 of 40 hours is 0.5 FTE. Use a monthly or yearly total the same way (full time = 173.33 hours a month or 2,080 a year).
The Affordable Care Act employer rules count full-time equivalents differently (30 hours a week, and part-timers' hours up to 120 a month divided by 120), which this tool does not apply.
