Subtract the start from the end. If the minutes of the end are smaller, borrow an hour: 4:50 PM minus 8:15 AM is 16:50 - 8:15 = 8 hours 35 minutes. Across midnight, add 24 hours to the end first.
Adding hours and minutes
Add the hours and the minutes separately, then carry every 60 minutes into an hour: 2:45 + 1:30 = 3 hours 75 minutes = 4 hours 15 minutes.
